The immediate environment natural and urban, stimulate what I make in porcelain and glass. I am motivated by the translucent qualities of both materials and I strive to express ideas through combining them and working with each separately.
The translucency of white porcelain together with clear glass, are used in the development of ideas concerning shadow and light around shape and space. It is an ongoing challenge endeavouring to combine these materials. Another predominant theme in my work is plant imagery. Porcelain provides for me, the ideal canvas for embossing texture. Mineral oxides, yellow ochre, copper and rutile, are used to emphasise and enhance the surfaces.
Based in the Midlands,my work has been exhibited in local areas Rugby, Leamington Spa, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Coventry. It has been part of the 'Artisans' Collection' in Wedgwood. Currently you can find my ceramic pieces in Leamington Studio Artists Gallery, East Lodge,Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa, The Pump Rooms Shop Leamington Art Gallery, and Dancing Light Gallery, near Edinburgh. Looking forward to Warwickshire Open Studios June 18 for 3 weeks at Sowe Valley Studios, Coventry CV3 2DG, Art in the Park Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa August 6 &7 and Warwick Arts Autumn Fair October/November.
